The landscape of Gorontalo Province is mostly made up of mountainous terrain that stretch from north to south along its borders. The highland panorama of Gorontalo is magnificent. The mountain forests are home to a number of protected wildlife such as the babi rusa, anoa, tarsius and maleo bird.
The forests of Gorontalo have ebony, lingua, nantu, meranti and rattan trees. In the southern part of Gorontalo Sea, in the Tomini Bay, sit a number of small islands. These islands are remain uninhabited and its pristine beaches are white. The bay’s geographical location, which is crossed by the equator line, is home to a unique diversity of marine biota.

Approximately 4 kilometers from downtown Gorontalo, the waters of Potanga pool is naturally cool and fresh, originating from a natural mountain spring.

In the past, the Kings of Gorontalo sought protection inside Otanaha castle in Dembe I, Kota Barat The uniqueness of the castle lies in the material used in its construction, which are a mix of sand, plaster and the egg whites of the maleo bird. Standing on the highlands, the castle offers a panoramic view of Lake Limboto.

Masjid Hunto (Sultan Amai)
Hunto Mosque is 300 years old and one of the oldest in Gorontalo. The Mosque is located in Siendeng Village in Gorontalo. The mosque houses a water well and bedug (Islamic giant drum for signaling prayer times) that are of the same age as the mosque.
White Sands of Leato
Here, on the alluring white sands of the Leato Beach, visitors can watch skilled workers repairing wooden boats using traditional techniques. Leato’s underwater life is unique, with beautiful coral reefs, fish and sunken shipwrecks, attracting divers from all over the globe. The beach is located on the northern side of Leato, about 12 kilometers from the town center.
Entrance to Lake Limboto is through a village called Iluta, some 10 kilometers from the town center. The lake is characterized by its unique variety of freshwater fish species found nowhere else.
The Tower of Majesty
The Tower of Majesty is a 60 meters hightower on top of which are telescopes for observing magnificent Lake Limboto from the heights.
Natural Hot Bath of Lombongo
Natural Hot Bath of Lombongo is located on Lombongo Village in Suwawa, about 20 kilometers away from the town center. There is a natural hot spring bath, cold spring bath, a playground, and stage for art performances. The hot water spring contains of sulfur, known for its skin healing properties.
Gorontalo Interest Places
In this site visitors have a close up view of the beautiful palm-tree lined Tomini Bay. On Pantai Indah Pohe Beach, Kota Selatan, is a huge stone resembling a human footprint, called ‘Lahilote’. Legend has it that this was the footprint of a man who married an angel who fell from heaven.
Ayuhulalo Waterfall is located on Ayuhulalo Village (‘ayuhulalo’ means ‘moon woods’), in Tilamuta. It is about 5 kilometers away from the District of Boalemo. The waterfall is surrounded by shady green woods.
The Beautiful Boalemo Beach
The shores of Boalemo Beach is covered in white sand, and its waters calm and clear. Visitors can relax, swim, boat or dive in this serene spot of the coconut and pine-tree lined coast. Luxurious resorts are available.
Bitilia Sea Garden
Bitilia Sea Garden provides good diving spots with remarkable underwater vista. It is a 15 -minute drive from Boalemo Indah Beach
Giant pine trees cover a large part of Bolihutuo beach, creating it a cool and calm atmosphere. Cottages are available for rent.
Bajo Tribe Villages
Bajo Tribe Villages (Tilamuta, Torosiaje, Popayato). The Bajo lives in groups and have a unique culture of their own. Fishermen by trade, almost all of their activities take place on boats. The Bajos who live on boats are called the ‘Bangau’. These people are nomadic, moving around from one island to another, but eventually will return to their native Toro Pantai Island to cultivate pearl and seaweed.
Central of Kerawang Handicraft Industry
Central of Kerawang Handicraft Industry ( or Kerawo). Kerawang is home to one of Gorontalo’s traditional handmade cloth industry.
The Sacred Cemetery of Ju Panggola
The cemetery dates back to the 14th century and is located in the sub district of Dembe, some 1.8 kilometers from the center of Kota Barat in Gorontalo city. The people of Gorontalo who live around the cemetery consider it hallowed grounds and many would meditate or pray amongst the tombstones.
Rumah Adat Gorontalo or Bantayo Poboide
A traditional house is built in the center of sub-district of Limboto, Gorontalo. Literally, ‘bantayo’ means ‘building’ and ‘poboide’ means ‘place for meeting’. Bantayo Poboide symbolizes Gorontalo culture and also functions as a place for activities related to local art and culture. The building houses many rooms, each with a distinctive function. Every ornament used in the building stands for the activities of the Gorontalo people.
